Russia has extended the categories of people who are entitled to compensation in the event of a death in a workplace accident.

As of December 2019, the list of individuals who are entitled to monetary compensation in the event of the death of an employee in an industrial accident has been extended.

The amendments introduced into the Federal Law ‘On compulsory social insurance against accidents at work and occupational diseases’ cover both those who are entitled to receive a lump-sum insurance payment and individuals who receive monthly insurance payments.

The parents of the deceased employee are now listed among the recipients of a lump-sum insurance payment. Previously, they could only receive compensation under certain conditions (e.g. if they did not work and took care of family members, who were dependents of the deceased employee).

The amount of the lump-sum insurance payment is RUB 1 million, and if the deceased employee had a spouse, children, and parents, then this amount should be divided proportionally between them.
